Lincoln, IL – Residents across most of central and southeast Illinois are being advised to monitor weather conditions closely as the region faces a level 1 risk of severe weather on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
The U.S. National Weather Service office in Lincoln issued an outlook on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, indicating that the potential for severe storms will vary by location throughout the day. North of I 72 and Danville, severe weather is favored during the morning hours. For areas south of that line, the threat of storms is most likely between midday and early evening.
Expected hazards associated with the storms include isolated wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph and hail approximately the size of quarters. Forecasters at weather.gov/ilx urge residents to review their severe weather safety plans, particularly if they have outdoor activities scheduled during the affected windows.
