LaSalle County, IL – Multiple fire departments are battling a brush fire near Interstate 80 in LaSalle County Wednesday afternoon after flames spread across several acres of farmland.
According to information from the scene, the fire was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday near I 80 and East 248th Road. The brush fire was burning on farmland near the interstate and had spread across several acres as crews worked to bring it under control.
Firefighters from Marseilles Fire Protection District , Mazon Fire Protection District and Seneca Fire Protection District were among the crews responding to the scene Wednesday afternoon.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The location of the fire near I 80 could make smoke visible to drivers traveling through the area. Motorists approaching the area should remain alert for smoke, emergency vehicles and firefighters operating near local roads.
Dry vegetation and open farmland can allow a brush fire to spread quickly, particularly when winds are present. The extent of the damage and the total acreage burned were not immediately available Wednesday afternoon.
No injuries had been reported in the initial information available from the scene. It was also not immediately clear whether any structures were threatened by the fire.
