Lake Zurich, IL – A 25 year old Lake Zurich woman faces three felony charges after Illinois State Police said an investigation found she allegedly purchased firearms and sold at least one to a convicted felon.
According to Illinois State Police, Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 special agents arrested Tanqueray McBride following an investigation into alleged firearm straw purchases. Lake Zurich is in Lake County, northwest of Chicago.
The investigation traces back to August 2025, when ISP troopers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 290 and recovered a firearm. Police said the vehicle’s driver was taken into custody on a felony aggravated possession of a firearm charge.
The firearm was sent for testing, and investigators continued working the case.
In March 2026, investigators determined the gun recovered during the I 290 stop had originally been purchased by McBride, according to ISP. Special agents also learned another firearm allegedly purchased by McBride had been recovered during an unrelated arrest in Lake County in November 2025.
State police allege McBride legally purchased firearms while claiming they were for personal use before selling them to people who were not legally permitted to possess firearms, a practice commonly referred to as a straw purchase.
ISP presented the case to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026. Prosecutors approved charges of unlawful purchase of a firearm with intent to deliver, a Class 2 felony; unlawful delivery of a firearm to a felon, a Class 3 felony; and perjury, a Class 3 felony.
An arrest warrant was issued Thursday, Sept. 24. Police said McBride later turned herself in to the Kane County Sheriff ’s Office, appeared for a pretrial detention hearing and was released.
The charges are allegations, and McBride is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
