KANKAKEE – It’s been two years since the Illinois Department of Natural Resources announced Potawatomi and Chippewa campgrounds would receive nearly two million dollars in renovations at Kankakee River State Park.
Today, local officials announced that the work is finally complete. The Potawatomi Campground is officially set to reopen on October 1st.
The renovations were funded through the Rebuild Illinois Capital Plan. The improvements include new electrical upgrades, new shower buildings, and new water hookups for campers.
“This is a huge win for Kankakee County,” said State Senator Patrick Joyce. “Our state park is a jewel in our community, and these upgrades will ensure that families can continue to enjoy it for years to come.”
The Chippewa Campground is expected to reopen later this year once final inspections are complete.
