Kankakee, IL – Social workers and victim advocates in Kankakee County can receive six continuing education units at no cost later this month during a professional training focused on how adverse childhood experiences can affect people throughout their lives.
According to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet, the “ACEs in Aging” training will be held Thursday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Kankakee Community College .
The free program is designed for social workers and victim advocates and will explore the lifelong effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences, commonly known as ACEs.
Participants will learn more about the relationship between elevated ACE scores and challenges that can emerge as people age. The training is intended to help professionals better understand how experiences during childhood may continue to influence physical, emotional and social well being decades later.
Organizers are offering six CEUs at no cost , giving area professionals an opportunity to earn continuing education credit while learning more about trauma informed approaches to working with older adults.
The event could be particularly useful for professionals throughout Kankakee County and surrounding communities who work with older residents, families, crime victims or people who have experienced trauma.
Catholic Charities is encouraging eligible professionals interested in the program to register ahead of the Oct. 29 session. Registration information is available through the organization’s event announcement.
The training will take place on the Kankakee Community College campus and is scheduled to conclude at 3:30 p.m.
