KANKAKEE – The City of Kankakee Council approved the Intergovernmental Agreement IGA to begin the creation of the Kankakee County Land Bank Authority.
The Land Bank Authority is designed to acquire, hold, and transfer interest in real property to promote effective land use, revitalize neighborhoods, and reduce blight. By consolidating abandoned and vacant properties, the authority aims to return these parcels to productive use, which can increase property values and improve local tax bases.
City officials believe the new authority will be a critical tool in addressing the challenges of aging infrastructure and housing stock throughout the region.
