Joliet, IL – Drivers across Will County faced increased police enforcement during the Halloween holiday period, resulting in eight impaired driving arrests and dozens of traffic citations as deputies targeted dangerous driving behaviors throughout the southwest Chicago suburbs.
According to the Will County Sheriff 's Office, the results were announced Thursday, Nov. 5, following a coordinated fall traffic safety campaign that ran from Oct. 23 through Nov. 2.
The 11 day operation resulted in eight impaired driving arrests and 49 additional traffic citations , highlighting continued concerns about roadway safety during holiday celebrations.
Deputies Target Impaired and Unsafe Drivers The sheriff's office reported that citations were issued for several violations, including speeding, operating uninsured vehicles and driving with suspended or revoked licenses.
Other traffic offenses were also documented during the enforcement period.
The initiative was part of a broader statewide effort involving law enforcement agencies across Illinois, aimed at reducing impaired driving and encouraging motorists and passengers to wear seat belts.
Statewide Halloween Safety Campaign The enforcement effort supported two major traffic safety initiatives: "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Drive High. Get a DUI."
Both campaigns emphasize the risks associated with operating vehicles while impaired by alcohol, cannabis or other substances.
The sheriff's office said the operation was designed to remove impaired drivers from roadways while promoting safer driving habits throughout the community.
Enforcement Results Released The campaign was funded through federal highway safety resources administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
While the eight arrests and 49 citations reflect enforcement activity in Will County, the sheriff's office did not provide statewide arrest totals.
Authorities continue encouraging motorists to arrange sober transportation, obey posted speed limits and ensure everyone inside their vehicles is properly restrained.
The enforcement results serve as a reminder that impaired driving can lead to criminal charges and serious consequences for motorists and other road users.
