Joliet, IL – A local man is in custody following an extensive investigation that culminated in a pursuit and his arrest on multiple felony charges,
according to the Joliet Police Department . Luis Martinez Duran, 27, faces counts related to residential burglary, theft, and weapons possession.
According to the Joliet Police Department , officers first responded to a residence in the 200 block of Adella Avenue on September 1, 2026, following a report of a residential burglary. Jewelry was allegedly stolen from the property while the residents were away.
Through their follow up investigation, detectives identified Martinez Duran as the primary suspect and obtained an arrest warrant on September 15. On September 17, 2026, at approximately 12:57 p.m., officers observed Martinez Duran driving and attempted a traffic stop near Madison and Oneida streets.
Martinez Duran allegedly refused to stop, continuing to drive across a grassy area before exiting his vehicle in a parking lot on the 2200 block of Oneida Street and fleeing on foot. Police pursued the suspect through several business lots along West Jefferson Street.
During the chase, officers reported observing Martinez Duran carrying a handgun. He was eventually apprehended near a garbage compactor at the 2101 West Jefferson Street Walgreens.
Officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and suspected methamphetamine at the scene. Martinez Duran was booked on charges of residential burglary, two counts of felony theft, armed violence, aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, fleeing and eluding a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, and violation of pre trial release.
He has been transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Authorities note that all charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
