Joliet, IL – Theatergoers in Joliet and Will County can step directly into the action next week when Joliet Central High School Drama presents an immersive version of “The Day the Internet Died” for three nights.
According to Joliet Central High School Drama , performances are scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026 , at 7 p.m. inside the Joliet Central Auditorium.
Directed by Joe Hoyt, the comedy by Ian McWethy and Jason Pizzarello has been reimagined with the playwrights’ permission as an interactive theater experience.
The story follows a small town after its internet suddenly disappears. Without phones, apps and online connections, panic and rumors spread while residents are forced to communicate face to face. Eventually, a town hall meeting is called — and the audience becomes part of it.
Instead of sitting in traditional rows, audience members will move through the performance space as townspeople. Multiple scenes unfold at the same time, allowing guests to decide where to go and what to watch.
That format means different audience members may experience entirely different parts of the story during the same performance.
“This is a theatrical experience unlike anything our traditional audiences have ever experienced,” Hoyt said. “I am so excited to offer our community the chance to experience our show, instead of just watching it.”
Tickets are $5 and may be purchased online through MySchoolBucks using the production’s QR code or at the door.
Joliet Central Drama said its program gives students hands on experience in acting, directing, design and technical theater while presenting productions for the Joliet and greater Chicago area community.
