Joliet, IL – A house fire sent Joliet firefighters rushing to a residential neighborhood Sunday night, Oct. 18, after heavy flames broke out on the second floor of a home in the 5600 block of Major Drive. Crews arrived within minutes and worked to prevent the fire from spreading throughout the structure.
According to the Joliet Fire Department , emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 8:30 p.m. after a neighbor noticed smoke coming from the residence and called 911.
Company 9 arrived within three minutes of the emergency call and encountered heavy fire coming from the home's second floor.
Firefighters immediately launched an aggressive interior attack, entering the structure to confront the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other areas of the residence.
Despite encountering significant fire conditions upstairs, crews were able to contain and extinguish the flames before they spread further.
Following the initial firefighting operation, crews conducted vertical ventilation to remove accumulated smoke and heat from inside the structure.
Firefighters also performed overhaul operations, checking walls and ceiling areas for hidden hot spots and extinguishing remaining areas of heat that could potentially reignite.
Officials confirmed that nobody was home when the fire broke out.
The department credited the initial emergency notification from a neighbor, whose observation of smoke prompted the 911 call and rapid firefighter response.
Photographs released by the department show emergency crews working outside the two story residence, along with visible fire damage near the upper portion of the home.
The extent of the property damage and an estimated financial loss have not been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation , according to the Joliet Fire Department.
