Joliet police arrested Marcus Gilbert, 19, of Crest Hill, for attempted murder on September 10. Gilbert was charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm in connection to a double shooting that occurred earlier that day in the 300 block of North Broadway Street.
According to police, officers responded to the area around 2:00 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire outside of a food mart. Upon arrival, they discovered two male victims, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital with serious, but non life threatening injuries. Following an investigation, police identified Gilbert as the suspect and he was taken into custody without incident shortly after the shooting.
Gilbert is currently being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility pending a court appearance.
