Springfield, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is inviting outdoor enthusiasts to become campground hosts at Kankakee River State Park for the 2024 camping season.

This opportunity extends to those passionate about nature, community service, and hospitality. Hosts are integral to the park experience, providing first contact for visitors, managing campground operations, and sharing insights on local attractions.

Calvin Beckmann, Chief of Parks and Recreation at IDNR, emphasized the importance of hosts, “Above all, the quality all campground hosts possess is a passion for working with the public.  If campground hosting sounds appealing to you, we would love to hear from you.”

Annually attracting over 40 million visitors, Illinois state parks thrive from the dedication and enthusiasm of their hosts. Prospective hosts can apply through the Campground Host Program Packet available on the IDNR website, ensuring that guest experiences continue to reach high standards of satisfaction and safety.
