Hickory Hills, IL – A 20 year old Chicago woman is facing an aggravated vehicular hijacking charge after police say she allegedly threatened to shoot a 63 year old woman with a disability during a confrontation in a grocery store parking lot Tuesday night.
According to the Hickory Hills Police Department , officers responded around 9:24 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, to the Jewel Osco parking lot at 9528 S. Roberts Road following reports of an attempted carjacking.
Investigators said the victim was sitting in the front passenger seat of her vehicle while her son was shopping inside the store.
A female suspect allegedly entered the driver's seat, threatened to shoot the woman if she refused to exit and physically pushed her while attempting to force her out of the vehicle.
Police said the victim's son returned to the parking lot, removed the suspect from the vehicle and detained her until responding officers arrived.
Authorities identified the suspect as Julianna A. Al Maghrabi, 20, of Chicago. She was taken into custody at the scene. Police confirmed that no firearm was recovered.
Investigators reviewed witness statements, surveillance recordings and body worn camera footage as part of the investigation.
Following a review by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Al Maghrabi was charged with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking.
Police also confirmed that the incident occurred at the same shopping center where officers had investigated attempted kidnappings earlier Tuesday. However, authorities emphasized that the incidents were unrelated.
The department credited the victim's son for his quick intervention, saying his actions helped protect his mother and allowed officers to immediately take the suspect into custody.
Police said there is no known ongoing threat to the community connected to this incident.
The charge is an allegation, and Al Maghrabi is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
