Frankfort, IL – A traffic stop in Will County has led to criminal charges against a suburban Chicago man who police say allegedly impersonated a federal Drug Enforcement Administration agent while possessing a firearm despite having a revoked Illinois firearm identification card.
According to the Frankfort Police Department , officers arrested 46 year old Edward R. Kajmowicz of Burr Ridge on Monday, Oct. 19, following a traffic stop near the intersection of LaGrange Road and Lincoln Way Lane in Frankfort.
During the encounter, Kajmowicz allegedly identified himself as an agent with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and presented credentials suggesting he worked for the federal agency.
Police said investigators later determined those credentials were fraudulent.
Authorities also reported finding a semiautomatic firearm in Kajmowicz's possession during the arrest. Investigators determined that his Illinois Firearm Owner's Identification card had previously been revoked.
The discovery prompted further investigation involving Frankfort police and officials from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
According to the department's Thursday, Oct. 22, news release, federal officials confirmed that Kajmowicz was not currently employed by the DEA and had never previously worked for the agency.
Following the investigation, Kajmowicz was charged with impersonating a public officer and unlawful possession of weapons.
The case raises public safety concerns involving individuals allegedly presenting themselves as federal law enforcement officers, particularly when firearms and fraudulent identification are involved.
Frankfort is located in Will County, south of Chicago, while Burr Ridge is a southwest suburb spanning portions of Cook and DuPage counties.
Kajmowicz is scheduled to appear in Will County Circuit Court on Monday, Nov. 9, 2026.
Police have not provided additional details about the original traffic violation or whether other individuals were involved.
The charges remain allegations, and Kajmowicz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
