Frankfort, IL – A 20 year old Joliet resident died and another driver suffered serious injuries after a two vehicle crash early Wednesday on Lincoln Highway in Frankfort, where one of the vehicles caught fire.
According to the Frankfort Police Department , officers were dispatched at approximately 3:18 a.m. Wednesday to the 8400 block of Lincoln Highway, also known as U.S. Route 30, following a report of a traffic collision.
Officers arrived and found both vehicles in the eastbound lanes of the highway. Police said both vehicles sustained significant damage in the collision, and one vehicle subsequently caught fire.
The drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles, according to police, and both suffered serious injuries.
A 54 year old Lockport resident was transported to a local hospital for additional treatment. The other driver, a 20 year old Joliet resident, was also taken to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The crash happened in Frankfort, a Will County community in the southwest Chicago suburbs. Police did not release the identities of either driver in Wednesday's announcement.
Frankfort police activated the Lincoln Way Area Crash Team to assist with the investigation. The department said personnel from the Mokena Police Department , New Lenox Police Department, Will County Sheriff 's Department and Mokena Emergency Services and Disaster Agency also assisted.
Authorities have not announced what caused the collision, and the investigation remains ongoing. No additional information was immediately available.
