Crystal Lake, IL – A 23 year old Woodstock man lost his life in a single vehicle collision early Sunday morning, September 20, 2026. Members of the McHenry County Sheriff ’s Office and the Crystal Lake Fire Protection District responded to the intersection of Butternut Drive and Chestnut Drive in Dorr Township at approximately 2:19 a.m.
Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that a 2024 Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Butternut Drive when the driver failed to navigate a curve. The vehicle exited the roadway to the south, crossed through Chestnut Drive, and struck several trees. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The McHenry County Sheriff ’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident. Officials noted that alcohol, weather conditions, and speed are considered potential contributing factors.
The investigation remains ongoing. As officials continue to process the evidence, residents are reminded that road safety is a community effort.
