Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois residents could experience an unusually warm start to the week, with temperatures approaching 90 degrees Monday before a cold front moves through Wednesday, bringing showers and a noticeable cooldown across the Chicago area and surrounding communities.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Chicago, unseasonably warm conditions will continue through Tuesday, October 13, before a midweek weather system brings increasing rain chances and a return to more typical October temperatures.
Monday Temperatures Could Reach 89 Degrees
Sunday, October 11, will feature decreasing cloud cover and afternoon highs ranging from 72 to 82 degrees across the region.
Temperatures will climb significantly Monday, October 12, with highs forecast between 84 and 89 degrees. Breezy conditions are also expected, while an isolated shower cannot be ruled out Monday night.
Overnight temperatures Monday will remain unusually mild, ranging from 67 to 71 degrees.
Tuesday will bring another warm day, with highs between 77 and 88 degrees. Rain chances begin increasing Tuesday night, with a 30% to 50% chance of showers.
Cold Front Arrives Wednesday
A cold front is expected to move through northern Illinois Wednesday, October 14, bringing periods of rain and cooler temperatures.
Wednesday's highs are forecast between 66 and 77 degrees, with shower chances ranging from 30% to 50%.
The unsettled pattern continues Thursday, when rain chances increase to 50% to 60% and highs fall to between 65 and 73 degrees.
Overnight lows could dip into the 40s Thursday night, with temperatures ranging from 44 to 51 degrees.
