Chicago, IL – A colder stretch of weather is settling across northern and central Illinois Friday, Nov. 6, with temperatures potentially dropping below freezing overnight before a noticeable warmup returns this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, afternoon temperatures Friday will struggle to climb beyond the 40s to around 50 degrees, followed by overnight lows ranging from 28 to 38 degrees across the forecast area.
Freezing temperatures are possible late Friday night.
Forecasters say the greatest potential for subfreezing conditions will be across inland portions of northern and central Illinois, particularly away from Lake Michigan and in locations where cloud cover clears.
Communities across the Chicago metropolitan area, including portions of Cook, Will, DuPage, Kane, McHenry and surrounding counties, could experience chilly overnight conditions, although temperatures will vary significantly by location.
Areas closer to Lake Michigan are expected to remain somewhat warmer.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should consider taking precautions, especially where temperatures fall below 32 degrees.
A breezy Friday gives way to improving weekend conditions.
Friday will feature breezy conditions, with isolated lake effect rain showers possible east of Interstate 65.
Saturday brings partly cloudy skies and afternoon highs between 49 and 52 degrees, with overnight lows generally ranging from 31 to 39 degrees.
By Sunday, sunshine returns as temperatures climb into the upper 50s and lower 60s, offering a noticeable improvement across the region.
The warming trend continues Monday, when afternoon highs are forecast between 61 and 66 degrees.
Overnight temperatures should also moderate, with Monday night lows ranging from the upper 30s to middle 40s.
The National Weather Service expects temperatures to return to the 60s early next week, bringing a brief break from the colder November conditions.
