CHICAGO — November will begin unusually mild across Chicago, with temperatures climbing into the lower 70s Tuesday before a wetter pattern brings widespread rain Tuesday night and Wednesday.
The National Weather Service forecast calls for a high near 63 Sunday, Nov. 1, with a 30% chance of showers mainly before 7 a.m. Sunday night remains mild near 55 before Monday reaches around 65 with another chance of showers.
73° Warmth Arrives Tuesday Monday night stays exceptionally mild for early November, with a low around 59 and only a slight shower chance.
Tuesday becomes the warmest day in the current forecast. Chicago is expected to reach around 73 degrees , with rain becoming likely mainly during the afternoon.
That gives the city a clear early November progression: 63 Sunday, 65 Monday and 73 Tuesday .
The warmup also fits NOAA’s broader November pattern, which favors above normal temperatures across much of the Midwest and Great Lakes. The Nov. 8–14 outlook continues that warm signal through much of the first half of November.
Rain Peaks Tuesday Night and Wednesday The most active weather arrives Tuesday night.
Rain chances climb to 80% , with temperatures remaining mild near 57. Wednesday stays unsettled with rain likely and a 70% precipitation chance , while the high falls back to around 66.
Rain chances linger Wednesday night and Thursday before the pattern gradually cools and dries. Thursday reaches around 63, followed by about 59 Friday and 58 Saturday.
That late week cooldown is noticeable, but it does not necessarily signal the beginning of sustained winter weather.
Warm, Drier Pattern Favored Nov. 8–14 The longer range outlook becomes especially useful for Chicago because the precipitation pattern changes.
NOAA’s November monthly outlook favors wetter conditions across portions of the Upper Midwest, but the separate Nov. 8–14 outlook favors below normal precipitation across a broad region extending through the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and parts of the Midwest.
At the same time, temperatures remain favored above normal.
That creates a strong Chicago specific storyline: a mild and wetter opening to November may give way to a warmer but quieter second week.
The outlook does not mean every day from Nov. 8–14 will be warm or dry. Individual fronts, chilly nights and rain remain possible. It means average temperatures are favored above normal while total precipitation trends below normal for the period.
For Chicago, the immediate numbers are more concrete: 73° Tuesday, rain peaking Tuesday night and Wednesday, then highs gradually slipping into the upper 50s by Friday and Saturday.
As Thanksgiving and holiday travel season approach, the bigger November question is how long this broader warmth can keep Chicago’s first sustained taste of winter waiting.
