Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois will remain mostly dry and seasonably warm through Saturday, but the same tropical system threatening heavy rain farther south could help bring showers into parts of the region Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, dry conditions are favored through Saturday, although a few isolated showers cannot be ruled out Friday. By Sunday, rain chances increase to 20% to 40% , mainly southeast of Interstate 55.
Those Sunday rain chances come as the remnants of Tropical Storm Isaias are forecast to move north after affecting the Gulf Coast and eventually the Ohio Valley this weekend.
Current forecasts place the greatest tropical remnant rainfall threat farther south and east of the Chicago area. However, moisture on the system's northern and western side could reach portions of Illinois by Sunday.
Wednesday will be sunny with highs of 75 to 82 degrees . Thursday turns somewhat cooler with highs of 67 to 75 before temperatures rebound Friday.
Saturday could be the warmest day of the period, with highs reaching 78 to 85 degrees across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Sunday remains warm, with highs of 74 to 79, but clouds and shower chances increase. Communities southeast of I 55 currently have the better opportunity for rain, while locations farther north and west may remain dry.
For Chicago, Cook County and the broader northern Illinois region, this is not currently forecast to be a major tropical rainfall event. The exact track of Isaias' remnants will determine how far northwest the rain reaches.
Residents with Sunday travel or outdoor plans should monitor forecast updates as the tropical system moves inland and its path becomes clearer.
