Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois is heading into an unusually warm stretch of October weather, with temperatures potentially climbing to 87 degrees Monday before increasing rain chances and an approaching cold front bring changes later in the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, dry conditions are expected throughout the weekend and into Monday, while temperatures remain unseasonably warm across much of the region.
Saturday, October 10, will bring afternoon highs between 77 and 82 degrees , with sunshine during the morning followed by increasing clouds later in the day. Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the mid 50s to around 60 degrees.
Sunday will remain warm, with decreasing cloud cover and highs ranging from 72 to 80 degrees.
However, the warmest conditions are expected Monday, October 12, when temperatures could reach 84 to 87 degrees across portions of northern Illinois.
Breezy conditions are also forecast Monday, making the beginning of the workweek feel more like late summer than mid October.
The weather pattern begins shifting Monday night as thunderstorm chances increase to approximately 20% to 40%.
Tuesday will bring a wider temperature range, with highs between 69 and 82 degrees. A slight chance of showers is expected south of Interstate 80 during the morning, with additional rain chances developing overnight.
By Wednesday, October 14, rain chances increase to 40% to 60%, with afternoon temperatures cooling to between 64 and 74 degrees.
The Weather Service expects a cold front to bring additional cooling toward the end of the week, although the exact timing and extent of the temperature drop remain uncertain.
Residents planning outdoor activities can expect generally favorable conditions through Monday, while commuters and travelers should monitor changing forecasts as rain chances increase toward midweek.
