Chicago, IL – Unseasonably warm and mostly dry weather is expected across northern Illinois through the weekend, with temperatures potentially reaching the upper 80s Monday before cooler conditions and increasing rain chances arrive by the middle of next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a five day outlook issued Friday, Oct. 9, shows daytime highs reaching 76 to 82 degrees Saturday, followed by temperatures ranging from 69 to 79 degrees Sunday.
The weather service expects generally dry conditions across much of the region, although light rain could develop southeast of Interstate 55 late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
Rain chances in that area range from 20% to 40% Saturday night, with a 20% chance continuing Sunday.
Monday could bring the warmest temperatures of the period, with highs ranging from 80 to 89 degrees across the forecast area. A chance of thunderstorms develops Monday night, with precipitation probabilities between 20% and 40%.
A cooling trend begins Tuesday, when afternoon temperatures are expected to range from 67 to 80 degrees. Rain chances remain relatively limited during the day before increasing to 20% to 30% Tuesday night.
By Wednesday, Oct. 14, highs are forecast to fall into the 62 to 73 degree range, accompanied by a 40% to 50% chance of rain.
Overnight temperatures will also trend cooler, dropping from the middle 50s and lower 60s this weekend into the upper 40s and middle 50s by Wednesday night.
The outlook indicates that the greatest opportunity for more widespread rainfall will arrive around midweek, rather than during the upcoming weekend.
Residents across the Chicago area and surrounding northern Illinois communities can expect warm conditions to persist into early next week before cooler temperatures and increasing rain chances develop Tuesday and Wednesday.
