Chicago, IL – A stretch of unusually mild late October weather will continue across northern Illinois before a cold front brings scattered rain chances and cooler temperatures heading into Halloween weekend, according to a new forecast released Tuesday, October 27.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, temperatures will remain above seasonal averages through Wednesday, October 28, before a cold front moves through the region late Wednesday night into Thursday.
Wednesday is expected to bring partly sunny skies and afternoon highs ranging from 70 to 76 degrees, offering another warm day across the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding communities.
Wednesday night temperatures should remain relatively mild, with lows between 54 and 60 degrees as clouds increase and showers become possible.
By Thursday, October 29, temperatures are forecast to reach 66 to 75 degrees, with occasional showers possible as the cold front moves across northern Illinois.
The cooler conditions will become more noticeable Friday, October 30, when afternoon highs are expected to range from 59 to 70 degrees.
Forecasters indicate locations north of Interstate 80 will generally experience the coolest temperatures, while Chicago and communities closer to Lake Michigan may remain warmer.
Attention then turns to Saturday, October 31, as families prepare for Halloween celebrations and evening trick or treating.
Saturday's forecast calls for highs between 62 and 70 degrees, with partly to mostly cloudy skies and occasional opportunities for showers.
Despite the rain chances, the National Weather Service emphasized that Halloween weekend is not expected to be a complete washout.
Saturday evening temperatures are expected to fall toward overnight lows of 49 to 54 degrees, making jackets a practical addition to Halloween costumes.
Residents traveling across Chicago, Joliet, Aurora and surrounding northern Illinois communities should remain alert for occasional wet roadways during passing showers.
