Chicago, IL – Unseasonably warm weather will continue across northern Illinois through much of the workweek, with afternoon temperatures reaching the 70s before occasional rain chances develop ahead of Halloween weekend.
The National Weather Service in Chicago said Tuesday morning, Oct. 27, that mild conditions will persist through Thursday, with a few showers possible late Wednesday night into Thursday as the next cold front moves through the region.
Tuesday's highs are forecast between 68 and 74 degrees across much of the area, although locations along the Illinois shoreline of Lake Michigan may remain in the lower to middle 60s.
Temperatures are expected to climb Wednesday, with highs ranging from 71 to 76 degrees. Thursday could be similarly warm, with afternoon highs between 70 and 77 degrees despite increasing opportunities for showers.
The Weather Service expects temperatures to remain relatively mild Friday, with highs ranging from 64 to 76 degrees.
By Saturday, Oct. 31, Halloween temperatures are forecast to reach 60 to 70 degrees, with occasional showers possible during the day.
Overnight temperatures will also remain mild for late October. Lows are forecast between 49 and 56 degrees Tuesday night, 54 and 60 Wednesday night, and 43 and 54 Thursday night. Friday night lows should range from 51 to 55 degrees, followed by 50 to 54 Saturday night.
Forecasters emphasize that rain chances will be intermittent rather than continuous, with the latest outlook specifically noting that the late week and weekend period is not expected to be a washout.
Additional opportunities for rain are forecast into early next week, although specific rainfall amounts and precipitation probabilities were not provided.
Residents planning Halloween activities should expect relatively mild temperatures but remain prepared for possible showers. Updated forecasts will help clarify the timing of any rain Saturday.
