CHICAGO, IL – Widespread freezing temperatures are expected across inland portions of northern Illinois late Friday, November 6, into early Saturday, November 7, with overnight lows potentially dropping to 26 degrees as colder air settles across the Chicago metropolitan region.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a cold front will bring additional showers Thursday afternoon and evening before cooler conditions develop Friday and Saturday. The agency expects widespread freezing temperatures inland from Lake Michigan early Saturday morning.
The cold spell will be relatively brief, with milder temperatures forecast to return Sunday and Monday.
Temperatures Could Drop to 26 Degrees Saturday The National Weather Service forecasts Friday night lows ranging from approximately 26 to 41 degrees across the Chicago forecast area.
The coldest conditions are expected farther inland, away from the moderating influence of Lake Michigan.
Communities across northern Illinois, including portions of the western and southern Chicago suburbs, could experience temperatures at or below freezing.
Chicago's immediate lakefront and the Indiana lakeshore are expected to remain comparatively warmer.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants should consider protective measures before temperatures fall Friday night.

High temperatures are expected to reach 51 to 56 degrees.
As another cold front crosses the region, lake effect rain showers are forecast to develop across northwest Indiana late Thursday night.
Those showers could continue through Friday evening before ending.
Friday will be breezy, with afternoon highs ranging from 46 to 52 degrees.
Warmer Weather Returns Sunday Saturday, November 7, will bring partly cloudy skies and highs of 49 to 53 degrees.
Another chilly night follows, with lows ranging from 30 to 42 degrees Saturday night.
Temperatures rebound Sunday, November 8, with mostly sunny skies and highs of 55 to 61 degrees.
Monday, November 9, brings additional warming, with afternoon temperatures reaching 59 to 64 degrees.
