Chicago, IL – Unseasonably warm temperatures will continue across the Chicago metropolitan area through Sunday, Oct. 25, but drivers could face reduced visibility as dense fog potentially develops Thursday night into Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, dry and unusually warm weather will dominate the region over the next several days, with afternoon highs generally reaching the 70s. However, forecasters are monitoring the potential for dense fog, particularly across northern and central portions of the Chicago metropolitan area.
Thursday, Oct. 22: Sunny skies will bring afternoon highs between 71 and 76 degrees. Areas closer to Lake Michigan will remain cooler, with temperatures in the 60s. Overnight lows will range from 43 to 49 degrees outside the city, while downtown Chicago stays in the lower 50s.
Friday, Oct. 23: Fog could linger into the morning before dissipating by midmorning. Sunshine is expected afterward, with highs between 70 and 75 degrees.
Saturday, Oct. 24: Partly cloudy skies and continued warmth are expected, with afternoon temperatures reaching 70 to 75 degrees. Overnight lows will generally range from 46 to 50 degrees outside the city.
Sunday, Oct. 25: The warm pattern continues, with partly cloudy conditions and highs climbing between 73 and 77 degrees.
The greatest immediate concern involves Thursday night's potential fog development. Drivers traveling through Chicago and surrounding suburbs early Friday should remain alert for sudden visibility reductions, particularly where fog becomes locally dense.
Motorists encountering fog should reduce speeds, increase following distances and use low beam headlights.
Despite the possible morning visibility issues, the extended forecast offers several opportunities for outdoor activities as unusually warm conditions persist into the weekend.
