Chicago, IL – Northern Illinois is heading into a stretch of unusually mild October weather, with abundant sunshine, afternoon temperatures climbing into the 70s and no rain expected through much of the workweek. However, residents will first face another chilly night with patchy frost possible outside Chicago.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, temperatures will return to above normal levels beginning Monday, October 19, as a dry weather pattern settles across the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding communities.
Chilly Sunday Night Before Temperatures Rise Sunday night will bring clear skies and temperatures falling into the middle 30s to lower 40s across the region. Patchy frost is possible in colder locations, while Chicago itself should remain somewhat warmer, with temperatures around the middle 40s.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants may want to take precautions before Monday morning.
Monday will bring sunshine and afternoon highs ranging from 66 to 70 degrees, providing a comfortable start to the workweek.
Tuesday will be even warmer, with temperatures reaching 68 to 73 degrees under sunny skies.
Temperatures Could Reach 75 by Midweek The warming trend continues Wednesday and Thursday, when afternoon highs are forecast between 70 and 75 degrees across much of northern Illinois.
Communities closer to Lake Michigan will remain slightly cooler, with temperatures generally in the middle to upper 60s near the shoreline.
Overnight temperatures will also gradually moderate, with lows rising into the 40s and lower 50s by Thursday night.
No Rain Expected Through Thursday The National Weather Service forecasts dry conditions throughout the period, with sunshine dominating the daytime outlook.
The extended stretch of pleasant weather should provide favorable conditions for outdoor activities, fall yardwork and travel across the Chicago area.
