Chicago, IL – A 38 year old Dallas man wanted in connection with a shooting in Texas has been arrested in downtown Chicago after investigators tracked a Porsche SUV to a vacation rental apartment, according to the Cook County Sheriff 's Office.
According to the sheriff's office, German Medina Gonzalez was wanted in Texas on a felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge stemming from an Oct. 11 shooting in Irving, Texas, near Dallas.
The arrest followed a coordinated investigation involving the Cook County Sheriff's Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
On Monday, Oct. 26, members of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force contacted Chicago area officers requesting assistance in locating Medina Gonzalez.
Authorities said an arrest warrant had been issued earlier in October and investigators believed Medina Gonzalez had fled Texas in a Porsche Macan.
Two days later, on Wednesday, Oct. 28, officers located the vehicle in the 900 block of South Clark Street in Chicago.
Investigators subsequently determined that Medina Gonzalez was registered as a guest at an apartment in the area being operated as a vacation rental.
Officers entered the investigation's final stage after identifying the apartment and locating Medina Gonzalez inside. He was taken into custody, according to the sheriff's office.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances of the arrest or whether any weapons were recovered.
Medina Gonzalez is currently being held at the Cook County Jail , where he is awaiting extradition to Texas to face the pending felony charge.
The case highlights cooperation between law enforcement agencies across state lines in locating individuals wanted in connection with serious criminal investigations.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office emphasized that defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
