Chicago, IL – Two men are facing felony weapons charges following separate road rage shootings along Interstate 290 in Cook County, where gunfire erupted during two incidents just hours apart Thursday, October 8, according to Illinois State Police.
According to an Illinois State Police news release issued Sunday, October 11, investigators arrested 33 year old David N. Andujar of Chicago and 45 year old Mario Lyons of Burnham following separate expressway shooting investigations.
Both arrests involved cooperation between Illinois State Police and Chicago Police Department District 15 officers.
First Shooting Reported Near Central Avenue
The first incident occurred around 10:37 a.m. Thursday on eastbound I 290 near Central Avenue.
Investigators said shots were allegedly fired from one vehicle toward another following an apparent road rage confrontation.
No injuries were reported.
Chicago police located the suspected vehicle, took one individual into custody and recovered a firearm. Investigators subsequently identified Lyons as the suspect.
Second Shooting Occurred Hours Later
At approximately 10:48 p.m. Thursday, troopers responded to another reported shooting on westbound I 290 near Austin Avenue.
Police said a suspect allegedly fired multiple rounds toward another vehicle during a separate road rage incident.
The victim's vehicle was not struck, and no injuries were reported.
Authorities located the suspected vehicle and detained two individuals. Further investigation identified Andujar as the suspect.
Felony Charges Filed
On Friday, October 9, prosecutors reviewed both investigations.
Lyons was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon without a valid FOID card.
Andujar was charged with two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
Both men remained in custody pending their initial court appearances at the time of the announcement.
Illinois State Police reminded motorists to avoid confrontations with aggressive drivers and call 911 to report dangerous road rage incidents.
The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
