CHICAGO, IL – Two people have been arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder following a shooting aboard a Chicago Transit Authority bus that left two passengers seriously injured, including a 65 year old woman struck by gunfire while sitting nearby.
According to the Chicago Police Department , the shooting occurred Sept. 30, 2026, aboard a CTA bus in the 300 block of West 63rd Street on Chicago's South Side.
Investigators said a 57 year old man boarded the bus and became involved in a verbal confrontation with 19 year old Tyrese Jones and 18 year old Destiny Jones.
Surveillance video reportedly captured the individuals arguing over a seat before the confrontation escalated into violence.
Police allege Destiny Jones punched the 57 year old victim in the face during the dispute.
As the altercation continued, Tyrese Jones allegedly produced a firearm and shot the man.
A 65 year old woman seated nearby was also struck by gunfire.
Both victims were transported to hospitals in serious condition.
Following the shooting, both suspects allegedly fled the scene on foot.
Detectives assigned to the department's Major Crimes Division began interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage.
Working with the Public Transportation Section Strategic Decision Support Center, investigators released a community alert containing images of the suspects.
Police said multiple tips from community members helped identify the two individuals, leading detectives to locate and arrest them.
In partnership with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, both defendants were charged with one felony count of attempted first degree murder, two felony counts of aggravated battery with discharge of a firearm and two felony counts of aggravated battery to a transit passenger.
Authorities credited community cooperation with helping advance the investigation.

Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
