Champaign, IL – The City of Champaign Fire Department , in coordination with the local municipal government, is set to honor the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks with a public memorial event. The community is invited to gather on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the University of Illinois Gies Memorial Stadium to participate in a series of remembrances.

Area organizations are expected to join the fire department and city officials for the proceedings. The event is open to any members of the public who wish to pay their respects to the first responders and civilians affected by the events of that day. As the community reflects on this milestone anniversary, officials encourage attendees to arrive early for the morning events.
