CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — November will begin mild across east central Illinois before temperatures climb into the mid 70s Tuesday, Nov. 3, and a wetter pattern brings widespread rain Tuesday night into Wednesday.
The National Weather Service forecast for Champaign calls for a high near 67 Sunday, Nov. 1 , with a 30% chance of rain mainly during the morning. Sunday night remains mild near 54, with patchy fog possible after midnight.
Warmth Builds Through Tuesday Monday stays mild with a high near 68. A small morning rain chance and patchy fog are possible before conditions remain mostly cloudy through the day.
Monday night stays unusually warm around 59, setting up the warmest day of the current forecast.
Tuesday, Nov. 3, is expected to reach around 74 degrees . South winds increase to 18–23 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 32 mph . Rain becomes likely mainly during the afternoon, with precipitation chances rising to 60% .
That creates a clear early November progression for Champaign: 67 Sunday, 68 Monday and 74 Tuesday .
Rain Peaks Tuesday Night Tuesday night becomes the wettest part of the current forecast.
The Weather Service places rain chances at 80% , with temperatures falling only to around 57. Rainfall totals between one quarter and one half inch are possible during the night.
Wednesday remains unsettled, with rain likely mainly before noon and a 60% precipitation chance . The high falls back to around 68.
Conditions improve more noticeably Wednesday night and Thursday. Thursday reaches around 66 with only a 30% morning rain chance, followed by highs near 62 Friday and 63 Saturday.
That means the first week story is not simply “warm November.” It is a warm start, wet Nov. 3–4, then a cooler and quieter Nov. 5–7 .
Warm, Drier Signal Nov. 8–14 The broader Midwest pattern becomes more interesting after the first week rain.
NOAA’s Nov. 8–14 outlook favors below normal precipitation across parts of the Midwest while above normal temperatures remain favored , supporting a warmer but potentially quieter second week pattern.
For the Great Lakes and Midwest, the broader regional theme remains warmth through Nov. 14 , with a drier second week tendency in many areas.
That does not mean Champaign will stay dry or warm every day. It means average temperatures are favored above normal while total precipitation trends lower during Nov. 8–14.
As Thanksgiving and holiday travel season approach, the larger question remains: how long can November warmth keep central Illinois’ first sustained taste of winter waiting?
