CARPENTERSVILLE, IL – A Kane County jury has found a Carpentersville man guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child in a case dating back to 2014, after the victim came forward to police more than a decade later.
The conviction, announced Thursday, Oct. 29, follows a trial involving allegations that the defendant sexually assaulted a child who was under his supervision.
According to Kane County State's Attorney Jamie L. Mosser, a jury found Gavino Pineda Sosa guilty Tuesday, Oct. 27, of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony under Illinois law.
Assault Occurred More Than a Decade Ago Prosecutors presented evidence that Pineda Sosa was supervising the victim and other children at his home in 2014 when he took the victim into a private room and sexually assaulted her.
The victim was younger than 13 at the time.
According to prosecutors, Pineda Sosa told the child that he would kill her parents if she ever revealed what happened.
Authorities said he occupied a position of trust in relation to the victim.
The victim first reported the assault to Carpentersville police in 2025, approximately 11 years after the incident.
Sentencing Scheduled for December Judge Donald Tegeler scheduled Pineda Sosa's next court appearance for Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
The hearing will address motions and sentencing.
In addition to any prison sentence imposed, Pineda Sosa must register as a sex offender for life under Illinois law.
He remains in custody at the Kane County Jail.
Prosecutors Praise Victim's Courage Assistant State's Attorney Jacqueline Kliment commended the victim for coming forward after years of silence.
"No child should have to endure the pain of keeping such a terrible secret for so many years," Kliment said.
She also acknowledged the prosecutors, victim advocate and Carpentersville detective involved in the case.
The guilty verdict concludes the jury trial, with sentencing still pending.
