Braidwood, IL – Firefighters battled a structure fire at an occupied Braidwood home Tuesday morning, stopping heavy flames from spreading significantly beyond an attached garage.
According to the Braidwood Fire Protection District , crews were dispatched at approximately 11:36 a.m. Tuesday to a reported structure fire at 540 N. Washington St. in Braidwood, in Will County southwest of Chicago.
Officials said the fire was the district’s third active emergency call at the time. Of six personnel on duty, four were already committed to two ambulance calls, leaving two firefighters immediately available to respond.
Both ambulance crews cleared their hospitals as quickly as possible and then joined the fire response, according to the district. Because of the nature of the incident, numerous automatic aid agencies were also dispatched.
First arriving firefighters reached the scene within about one minute of being dispatched and encountered heavy fire coming from the attached garage of a two story residence.
Crews immediately began fire suppression operations and were able to bring the blaze under control before it caused significant extension into the remainder of the home, fire officials said.
The residence was occupied when the fire began. Authorities reported no injuries to residents or firefighters .
The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Tuesday and remains under investigation by the Braidwood Fire Protection District fire investigation team .
Neighboring fire departments and additional emergency resources assisted throughout the incident. The district did not identify each responding agency in its initial release.
Officials have not released an estimate of the damage to the residence or indicated when the investigation may be completed.
