Bourbonnais, IL – Kankakee County residents looking to safely dispose of expired or unwanted medications will have an opportunity later this month as a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event comes to Bourbonnais on Saturday, October 24.
According to the event flyer, the community collection will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walmart, 2080 N. State Route 50, Bourbonnais , providing residents with a convenient location to drop off medications they no longer need.
The event is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day initiative, which encourages the safe disposal of unused and expired medications.
The campaign carries the message "Be Aware. Don't Share," reminding residents of the importance of keeping unwanted medications out of the wrong hands.
Improperly stored prescription drugs can create risks of accidental poisoning, misuse and unauthorized access, particularly in households with children.
In addition to medication collection, several local organizations will be participating in other community donation efforts.
The Bradley Lions Club will collect used eyeglasses , which can help provide vision assistance to individuals in need.
The organization will also accept pop tabs and keys as part of its collection efforts.
Georgie's Closet will be accepting donations of baby diapers to help families in need throughout the community.
The event brings together local health, law enforcement and community organizations to promote public safety while supporting additional charitable causes.
Residents are encouraged to gather unwanted medications ahead of the event and consider bringing eligible donation items for the participating organizations.
The collection is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., at the Bourbonnais Walmart.
For Kankakee County households, the event offers an opportunity to clear out medicine cabinets, reduce medication related risks and support local charitable efforts during a single community gathering.
