BOURBONNAIS – An entire family nearly drowned while out for a walk over the weekend at Perry Farm near the mouth of the Indian Caves in Bourbonnais.
Area reports indicate a family of four was walking along the bank of the Kankakee River when the ground gave way, causing the family to slide into the water. According to emergency responders, the river current in that area is notoriously deceptive and strong, quickly pulling the family into deeper water.
Bystanders who witnessed the incident quickly intervened, helping the family reach safety before emergency personnel arrived on the scene.
No serious injuries were reported. Officials are reminding visitors to Perry Farm and other riverfront locations to remain on marked trails and maintain a safe distance from the water's edge, as bank erosion remains a significant hazard.
