Arlington Heights, IL – A 25 year old DeKalb man faces attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery charges following a violent altercation in suburban Cook County that allegedly involved multiple stab wounds, an attempted vehicle assault and a multiagency police search.
According to the Arlington Heights Police Department , officers responded Saturday, Oct. 10, to the 300 block of North Salem Avenue after receiving a report of a stabbing.
Police identified the suspect as Kendall Chesley, 25, of DeKalb, Illinois, who authorities say also contacted 911 and reported stabbing someone.
Victim Hospitalized With Multiple Stab Wounds
Responding officers found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest and hand.
Officers immediately provided medical assistance before the Arlington Heights Fire Department transported the victim to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Police reported Sunday that the victim remained in stable condition and that the injuries were not considered life threatening.
Authorities said the victim and suspect were acquaintances.
Police Say Suspect Also Attempted Vehicle Assault
Investigators allege Chesley attempted to strike the victim with a silver Honda Civic during the confrontation.
The vehicle instead collided with a nearby building, according to police.
Chesley allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting an extensive search involving Arlington Heights officers, the department's drone unit, Buffalo Grove police K 9 resources and Palatine officers.
Police later developed information suggesting Chesley was traveling toward Rand Road and Hintz Road.
Palatine officers located him in that area and took him into custody.
Attempted Murder Charge Filed
Following an investigation and review by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, Chesley was charged with attempted first degree murder, a Class X felony, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a Class 3 felony.
On Sunday, Oct. 11, authorities transported Chesley to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse in Chicago for a detention hearing.
Police credited cooperation among neighboring departments and emergency dispatchers for helping resolve the incident.
The charges are allegations, and Chesley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
