Addison, IL – Four Chicago men accused of carrying out an armed gaming café burglary that caused more than $100,000 in damage will remain in custody after a DuPage County judge granted prosecutors' request for pretrial detention Friday.
According to DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Police Chief Roy Selvik, the defendants allegedly broke into Maria's Gaming Café at 40 E. Lake St. early Thursday, Oct. 29, using sledgehammers to destroy gaming machines and steal cash boxes.
Authorities allege five individuals, four of whom were armed, entered the business around 4:37 a.m. after arriving in a stolen Dodge Durango and a BMW.
The group allegedly spent approximately two minutes inside, smashing gaming machines before fleeing with $13,847 in cash.
Police later spotted the vehicles, triggering a pursuit through DuPage County.
Investigators said the Durango allegedly reached speeds exceeding 100 mph while fleeing along Route 83. Officers eventually deployed spike strips, prompting eight occupants to abandon the SUV near Van Buren and 31st Avenue in Bellwood.
During the escape, three firearms allegedly fell from the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered additional weapons, including a firearm equipped with a device capable of converting it to fully automatic operation, authorities said.
Four suspects were taken into custody following a coordinated search involving police K 9 units, drones and multiple law enforcement agencies.
Prosecutors identified the defendants as Chicago residents, including 20 year old Keonte Adams and 24 year old Dajuan Johnson.
Berlin condemned the alleged violence, saying coordinated burglaries threaten businesses and leave communities feeling unsafe.
Addison police credited neighboring departments for assisting with the investigation and arrests.
The defendants are scheduled to return to court Nov. 23, 2026, before Judge Joseph Bugos.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
