Addison, IL – A 23 year old Addison man accused of firing multiple gunshots at an occupied vehicle in DuPage County will remain in custody pending trial after a judge denied his pretrial release.
According to DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin and Addison Police Chief Roy Selvik, Judge Michael Fleming granted prosecutors' request Saturday, Oct. 17, to detain Edwin Orozco, 23, following his arrest in connection with an October 2024 shooting.
Orozco faces three felony charges: aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle, possession of a firearm by a street gang member and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
Shots Allegedly Fired at Vehicle With Juveniles Inside
The investigation began Oct. 4, 2024, when Addison police responded to reports of gunfire near Lake Street and Neva Avenue.
Prosecutors allege that a driver and two juveniles were approached by three individuals after an encounter involving suspected gang activity.
Authorities say one individual allegedly struck the vehicle's passenger window before the driver attempted to leave. The suspect allegedly fired three or four shots, striking the vehicle.
Investigators recovered more than nine 9mm shell casings. No injuries were reported.
Arrest Leads to Pretrial Detention
On Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, detectives executed a search warrant at Orozco's residence, where they located a gun box associated with a 9mm Ruger pistol.
Authorities allege Orozco was the individual who fired at the vehicle.
Berlin condemned the alleged shooting, emphasizing the danger posed to the vehicle's occupants, nearby motorists and pedestrians.
Following a subsequent court appearance, Judge Mia McPherson ordered Orozco to remain detained pending trial.
His next scheduled court appearance is Nov. 9, 2026, for arraignment.
The charges are allegations, and Orozco is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
