Boise, ID – Residents across southwestern and central Idaho should prepare for a significant weather change this week as warmer conditions give way to thunderstorms, gusty winds, widespread rain and the possibility of mountain snow by Friday, October 23.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, temperatures will remain relatively warm through midweek before a developing weather pattern brings increasingly unsettled conditions from Tuesday through Friday.
The transition could create changing travel conditions, particularly across higher elevations and mountain highways.
Thunderstorms Possible Tuesday and Wednesday Tuesday, October 20, is expected to remain warm, with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms developing over higher terrain near the Idaho Nevada border and central Idaho.
Forecasters warned that gusty thunderstorm outflows could accompany developing storms.
Wednesday, October 21, will likely be the final day of warmer conditions.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue, primarily across central Idaho, with precipitation chances increasing from the southwest Wednesday night.
Temperatures Drop Thursday and Friday By Thursday, October 22, temperatures are expected to fall approximately 5 to 10 degrees as numerous rain showers move through the region.
Embedded thunderstorms could produce heavy rainfall and strong, gusty winds.
Colder air is expected to arrive Thursday night, accompanied by increasing winds.
Friday, October 23, will bring another significant temperature drop, with readings potentially 10 to 15 degrees cooler than Thursday.
Showers and high mountain snow are possible Friday morning before precipitation gradually decreases from west to east during the afternoon.
Travel Impacts Possible Drivers traveling through Idaho's mountainous regions should remain alert for wet roads, reduced visibility and changing conditions at higher elevations.
The National Weather Service has not specified snowfall accumulation totals in the shared outlook.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts as the approaching system develops.
