Boise, ID – A Pacific weather system is expected to bring cooler temperatures, widespread rain showers and mountain snow to southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon beginning Monday, October 26, potentially creating slick travel conditions through Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Boise, an approaching Pacific trough will bring increasingly active weather across the region, with precipitation expanding Monday morning and continuing into Tuesday, October 27.
The system is expected to affect valleys and higher elevations differently, with rain primarily impacting lower elevations while accumulating snow becomes possible in the mountains.
Monday, October 26: Rain Expands Across the Region
Rain coverage is forecast to increase Monday morning across southwest Idaho and southeastern Oregon.
Valley temperatures are expected to range from the 50s to 60s, while mountain locations could experience temperatures ranging from the 30s to 50s.
Drivers should prepare for wet pavement and potentially slippery roads as showers spread across the region.
Tuesday, October 27: Mountain Snow Continues
Showers are expected to persist into Tuesday afternoon, with colder conditions supporting snow at higher elevations.
The National Weather Service indicates that mountain snow levels in Central Idaho could range between approximately 5,500 and 6,500 feet.
Accumulating snow may affect mountain routes and outdoor recreation areas, particularly where temperatures fall near freezing.
Travel and Outdoor Impacts
The approaching system could create changing road conditions for motorists traveling through mountainous terrain.
Hunters, hikers and campers should also prepare for wet conditions, colder temperatures and potential snowfall at higher elevations.
Outdoor activities may be affected by rain showers and mountain snow throughout the two day period.
The National Weather Service has not indicated that significant snowfall is expected in Boise itself, where precipitation should primarily fall as rain.
Residents traveling between southwest Idaho and eastern Oregon are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and road conditions before departure.
Conditions may change as the storm moves across the region Monday and Tuesday.
