Atlanta, GA – A wetter weather pattern could begin taking shape across portions of the southeastern United States during October 20 26, raising the possibility of more rainfall as communities prepare for Halloween festivities and late October outdoor activities.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, the 8 14 day precipitation outlook issued Monday, October 12, favors above normal precipitation across Florida and portions of Georgia and southern South Carolina during the October 20 26 forecast window.
The forecast places much of the affected Southeast within a 33% to 40% probability category for above normal precipitation, with some areas showing slightly stronger signals.
Where Rain Chances Are Increasing Florida is among the states highlighted for potentially wetter than average conditions, with the above normal precipitation area extending into parts of southern Georgia and coastal South Carolina.
However, the outlook is not uniform across the Southeast. Much of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and the Carolinas remains within a near normal precipitation category, where no unusually wet or dry pattern is strongly favored.
The outlook also does not predict specific rainfall totals, flooding or daily thunderstorm chances.
What Happens Closer to Halloween? While the October 20 26 outlook suggests increased odds of precipitation in parts of the Southeast, the longer range picture becomes less certain.
NOAA's Week 3 4 precipitation outlook, covering October 24 through November 6, shows equal chances of above , near and below normal precipitation across much of the southeastern United States.
That means forecasters have not identified a clear wetter than normal signal for Halloween on Saturday, October 31.
Meanwhile, NOAA's temperature outlook favors above normal temperatures across much of the Southeast during October 20 26, potentially combining mild conditions with increased precipitation opportunities in some locations.
Residents planning fall festivals, travel or outdoor Halloween events should continue monitoring updated local forecasts as the final week of October approaches.
