Atlanta, GA – Georgia’s transition into cooler fall weather may remain slow during Oct. 12 18, with temperatures favored to run above normal and the overall pattern leaning wetter than usual.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across Georgia during the seven day period. Above normal precipitation is also favored.
Warm October weather is not unusual across Georgia, particularly across the central and southern parts of the state. The CPC signal means temperatures averaged over the week are favored to be warmer than what is typical even for mid October, rather than signaling an unusual spell of extreme heat.
Atlanta and other parts of North Georgia could still see a more noticeable autumn contrast between afternoons and nights. Cooler mornings remain possible, particularly in the mountains and normally cooler inland locations, despite the warmer overall trend.
Farther south, including around Macon, Albany and Valdosta, the seasonal warmth could be more persistent. Specific daytime highs and overnight lows cannot be determined from the CPC outlook.
Rain is the other piece of Georgia’s Oct. 12 18 weather picture. Above normal precipitation is favored, but the outlook does not specify rainfall amounts, storm systems or which days are most likely to be wet. Dry periods remain possible.
Frost is not indicated by this outlook and should not be inferred from the warmer than normal signal. Any colder nights in the North Georgia mountains would need to emerge in shorter range forecasts.
For now, Georgia’s mid October pattern favors continued fall warmth with increased odds for a wetter week . More precise temperatures and rain timing should become available as Oct. 12 approaches.
