ATLANTA, Georgia – Georgia is heading into November with temperatures climbing into the 70s around metro Atlanta, but a return of showers and thunderstorms by midweek comes as NOAA's longer range outlook favors wetter than normal conditions across the state closer to Thanksgiving.
The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures reaching 75 degrees Wednesday around Peachtree City, southwest of Atlanta, with a 60% chance of precipitation. Farther ahead, federal outlooks suggest above normal precipitation could become more likely during Nov. 14 27, a period that includes Thanksgiving holiday travel.
Metro Atlanta Could Reach 75 Degrees Before Midweek Storms According to the National Weather Service, Peachtree City will see mostly cloudy skies Saturday, Oct. 31, with a high near 73 degrees. East winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
Sunday brings a slight chance of showers after 9 a.m., with a high near 67 degrees and a 20% precipitation chance.
Monday warms to 72 degrees, followed by 73 Tuesday.
Rain chances increase Tuesday night, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 a.m.
Wednesday brings a high near 75 degrees and a 60% chance of precipitation. Showers become likely during the afternoon, with thunderstorms also possible.
Rain and thunderstorm chances remain at 60% Wednesday night before decreasing to 30% Thursday.
Georgia residents will also turn clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, bringing earlier sunsets as November begins.
NOAA November Outlook Shows Wetter Pattern Returning to Georgia NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlooks issued Oct. 30 favor above normal temperatures across Georgia during Nov. 5 9 and Nov. 7 13.
The Nov. 14 27 temperature outlook shows no clear preference for above or below normal temperatures across much of Georgia, including the Atlanta area.
Precipitation probabilities shift throughout the month.
During Nov. 5 9, parts of Georgia fall near the boundary between near normal and above normal precipitation outlook areas.
By Nov. 7 13, below normal precipitation is favored across portions of northern and central Georgia, while southern areas show less of a clear signal.
The Nov. 14 27 outlook shifts toward above normal precipitation across Georgia, including metro Atlanta, with probabilities generally around 40 50%.
That period includes Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 26, and the surrounding holiday travel window.
Thanksgiving Holiday Travel: Could Georgia See Rain or Snow? The wetter late November outlook raises an early question for Thanksgiving travelers: Could Georgia experience rain, snow or a combination of both?
NOAA's extended outlook does not identify a specific Thanksgiving storm, snowfall accumulation or travel disruption.
Snow is uncommon around metro Atlanta during November, and the available guidance provides no specific indication of a Thanksgiving snowfall event.
The outlook also cannot determine whether rain will fall on Thanksgiving Day itself.
For now, the more immediate weather concern arrives Wednesday, when showers become likely and thunderstorms are possible across the Peachtree City forecast area.
Residents should expect several mild afternoons before midweek rain chances increase. Thanksgiving precipitation timing and type will become clearer as shorter range forecasts become available.
