Atlanta, GA – Halloween is less than two weeks away, and families across Georgia, the Carolinas and Florida could be looking at warmer than normal weather heading into Saturday, Oct. 31. But will children need jackets for trick or treating, or could rain become the bigger concern?
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center, its 8 14 day outlook issued Saturday, Oct. 17, favors above normal temperatures across much of the Southeast from Sunday, Oct. 25, through Saturday, Oct. 31.
The region is part of a widespread warm pattern extending from the central United States through the Ohio Valley and East Coast.
Will Halloween be warmer than usual?
For families around Atlanta, Charlotte, Raleigh, Columbia, Jacksonville and Orlando, the early outlook suggests an increased likelihood of warmer than average conditions during Halloween week.
Georgia and the Carolinas generally favor above normal temperatures, while much of Florida also leans warmer than seasonal averages.
However, this does not guarantee a warm Halloween evening. Temperatures can still cool after sunset, particularly across the Carolinas and northern Georgia, where children may need jackets or additional layers.
Could rain spoil Halloween plans?
NOAA's precipitation outlook offers some encouraging signals, particularly across the northern Southeast.
Below normal precipitation is favored across portions of North Carolina, South Carolina and northern Georgia during Oct. 25 31.
Farther south, including much of Florida, precipitation probabilities are closer to normal, leaving greater uncertainty about rainfall.
A drier than normal outlook does not guarantee rain free trick or treating Saturday evening.
For now, the strongest signal is for a warmer than normal Halloween week, with some areas also favoring drier conditions.
Families should monitor updated forecasts closer to Oct. 31 for more reliable evening temperatures, wind conditions and rain chances.
