ATLANTA — A damp and cool start to November will quickly give way to warmer weather across metro Atlanta, with highs climbing into the 70s Monday through the end of the workweek before a more organized round of showers and thunderstorms arrives Wednesday.
The National Weather Service forecast for Atlanta calls for a 40% chance of showers Sunday, Nov. 1, with a high near 63. Conditions improve Monday as temperatures jump to around 72 under partly sunny skies, followed by another mild day Tuesday with a high near 74.
70s Return Monday The warming trend becomes the dominant early week story after Sunday's cooler, cloudier weather.
Monday night is expected to fall only to around 57, followed by a high near 74 Tuesday. A slight shower chance returns late Tuesday night, but temperatures remain mild with a low near 61.
Wednesday then brings the week's most notable weather change.
The Weather Service forecasts a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday, Nov. 4 , with a high near 73. Rain remains likely Wednesday night, when precipitation chances increase to 70% and temperatures remain around 61.
Rain Chances Ease After Wednesday The pattern becomes less unsettled Thursday.
A 30% chance of showers remains Thursday morning with a high near 75, followed by only a 20% rain chance Thursday night. Friday turns mostly sunny with a high around 74, while Saturday currently looks mostly sunny and mild near 72.
That produces a fairly clear first week of November progression for Atlanta: showers Sunday, warmer and mostly dry Monday Tuesday, a wetter storm window Wednesday, then improving weather Thursday through Saturday.
Warm November Pattern Remains Favored The local forecast also fits the larger November temperature picture.
NOAA's November outlook favors above normal temperatures across much of Georgia and the Southeast. The Climate Prediction Center's Nov. 8–14 outlook continues to lean warm across much of the region, although the warm signal weakens toward portions of the Southeast Atlantic coast.
For Atlanta, farther inland, that supports a continued mild first half of November theme rather than an early sustained push toward winter.
Precipitation provides a less dramatic extended signal. Outside Florida, much of the Southeast is closer to near normal precipitation during Nov. 8–14, making temperature the stronger longer range story.
The outlook does not mean Atlanta will remain in the 70s every day through Nov. 14, but it does keep the overall pattern tilted warmer than normal as Thanksgiving and holiday travel season move closer.
When do you expect Atlanta to get its first real taste of winter?
