Tampa, FL – A witness’s report of a man allegedly smashing a parked vehicle’s rear window and climbing inside led Hillsborough County deputies to an arrest Saturday morning.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff ’s Office, deputies responded at about 8:49 a.m. Saturday to an apartment complex on Lincoln Cove Drive in Tampa. A witness told authorities a man threw stones at a parked vehicle, shattered its rear window and climbed inside.
Deputies said they tracked the man nearby and encountered him while he was allegedly attempting to open the door of another vehicle.
Authorities identified the man as Yordenis Sotomayor Tamayo, 37. According to HCSO, he had a bleeding cut on his knuckles when deputies arrested him and was wearing only socks.
Investigators said Sotomayor Tamayo’s shoes and cellphone were later located inside the vehicle he allegedly entered through the broken rear window.
Sotomayor Tamayo faces charges of criminal mischief involving damage over $1,000 and trespass in an unoccupied structure or conveyance, according to the sheriff’s office. The allegations are charges, and guilt would have to be established in court.
