Tampa, FL – West central Florida faces a wetter, stormier workweek as a cold front moves into the region and stalls, bringing repeated rounds of thunderstorms and areas of heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, thunderstorm coverage will increase beginning Monday, with widespread storms forecast at times through the middle of the week. Unlike northern states entering frost season, temperatures across west central Florida will remain warm.
Sunday starts the transition with isolated to scattered thunderstorms and rain chances of 20% to 50%. Highs will range from 86 to 94 degrees.
Storm coverage increases substantially Monday. The NWS forecasts scattered to widespread thunderstorms, with rain chances ranging from 30% to 80%. Highs will range from 81 to 93, with overnight lows of 72 to 76.
Tuesday and Wednesday currently have the greatest coverage. Numerous to widespread thunderstorms are forecast both days, with rain chances of 70% to 90%. Areas of heavy rainfall will be possible.
Temperatures should gradually ease as clouds, rain and the front affect the region. Tuesday highs are forecast from 78 to 90 degrees, followed by 79 to 88 Wednesday. Wednesday night lows could fall into the upper 60s in cooler locations.
Scattered to widespread thunderstorms remain possible Thursday, when rain chances range from 50% to 90%. Highs should reach 82 to 88 degrees.
For Tampa Bay and surrounding areas, the main weather story this week will be repeated thunderstorm chances rather than a sharp autumn cooldown. Residents should expect the wettest pattern to develop Monday through Wednesday and monitor updated forecasts for rainfall and thunderstorm impacts.
