Tallahassee, FL – Much of the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend faces a Flood Watch through Monday morning as repeated heavy rain could bring 2 to 6 additional inches, with isolated totals reaching 8 to 10 inches.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the Flood Watch has been expanded across much of its forecast area and continues through 8 a.m. EDT, or 7 a.m. CDT, Monday. The watch also extends into southwestern Georgia and southern portions of southeastern Alabama.
Forecasters expect repeated rounds of heavy rain through Monday. The most likely additional rainfall is 2 to 6 inches, while localized totals of 8 to 10 inches are possible, mainly along the Florida Panhandle coast. The NWS estimates about a 10% chance of exceeding those higher end totals.
Flash flooding could develop, particularly in low lying locations and areas with poor drainage. Residents should avoid flooded roads and never attempt to drive through high water.
There is also a localized severe weather concern Sunday.
The NWS said an area of low pressure crossing the Florida Panhandle could create a narrow corridor where a tornado or two is possible from the Emerald Coast into the southwestern Florida Big Bend. The broader severe weather outlook is a Marginal Risk, Level 1 of 5.
The tornado threat is limited and does not mean tornadoes are expected across the entire Panhandle.
For Tallahassee and surrounding communities, repeated heavy rain remains the primary concern through early Monday. Residents should monitor warnings through the day, particularly along the Panhandle coast where the highest rainfall totals and localized severe weather potential are concentrated.
