Sarasota, FL – A 19 year old man was taken into custody following an investigation into an attempted homicide that occurred late Saturday night. The incident occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. on September 19 in the 5100 block of Lahaina Drive.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at a private residence. Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel discovered a Hispanic male suffering from significant blood loss due to stab wounds.
The victim was treated by deputies before being transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The suspect, identified by authorities as Yordi David Lopez Fuentes, reportedly refused commands to exit the residence.
Deputies utilized less lethal pepper ball munitions and deployed a K9 unit to successfully apprehend the suspect. Lopez Fuentes has been charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder.
He is currently being held at the Sarasota County Correctional Facility. Authorities noted that Lopez Fuentes is currently subject to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement ICE detainer.
According to the Sheriff's Office , his identity has not yet been confirmed through official government documentation from either the United States or Guatemala. The investigation remains ongoing as the victim recovers from injuries sustained during the incident.
